A guide to Commissioning a Pet Portrait Artist Near You
We adore our pets, from dogs to chickens, naughty ponies to rabbits… our pets are more than just animals—they’re beloved members of our family. They bring us joy, companionship, and unconditional love, so it’s only natural to want to celebrate them in a meaningful way. A custom pet portrait gives a beautiful and lasting tribute, capturing their personality and essence in a work of art that you or a loved one can cherish forever.
If you’ve been searching for a pet portrait artist near you or want to work via telephone and emailing photo’s I can do both. Here’s everything you need to know about commissioning a pet portrait and working with me, Sarah.
Why Commission a Pet Portrait?
A pet portrait is more than just a picture—it’s a unique and personal keepsake that tells a story. Whether you want to commemorate a beloved pet who has passed or celebrate your current companion, a custom portrait makes for a heartfelt and timeless piece of art.
Pet portraits also make wonderful gifts for animal lovers. Whether for a birthday, anniversary, or special occasion, they’re a thoughtful way to show someone how much you appreciate their bond with their pet.
1. Style and Medium
My portraits are highly detailed and lifelike. I work in the highest quality soft pastel and pastel pencils. Take a look at my Gallery for some recent examples of portraits.
2. Experience and Reviews
I started working on Pet Portraits in my twenties while at college studying for a Graphic Design Diploma, 25 years on (Yes I know – where does the time fly!) as well as having had a successful career as a Graphic Designer I am also able to work on pet portrait commissions which I absolutely love. I find that it is all about understanding from talking to owners the personality of animals. Take a look at the reviews from past clients on my Homepage.
3. Personalized Approach
I always take the time to understand your pet’s personality and any special requests you have. Some may even work from multiple reference photos to create a truly lifelike and expressive portrait.
4. Budget and Timeline
Custom pet portraits vary in price depending on the size, medium, and level of detail. I always discuss each clients budget and timeline, especially if you need the portrait for a special occasion. If the deadline is really tight or photo’s need to be taken and time is running out, I also have beautiful Gift Vouchers that can be given on the special day.
The Commissioning Process
If you decide to work with me we will go through the following steps:
1. Consultation – Discuss your vision, preferred style, and share high-quality photos of your pet.
2. Creation – I start to bring your pet’s portrait to life, providing updates along the way.
4. Final Approval & Delivery – Once complete, you’ll receive your artwork, all pet portraits arrive mounted and wrapped.
